I was recently stopped at one those so-called “Safety Check” points. The last time about 11pm near the Fair Grounds in Columbia, with about 6 S.C. Highway Patrolman.

I asked to speak to their supervisor. I explained to the supervisor that I did not serve 20 years as a soldier in our U.S. Army, defending our U.S. Constitution, to have it here at home violated on me! I then explained the 4th Amendment.

He kept saying “we are not violating your Constitutional right because we did not single you out. We are stopping everyone.”

I then told him, “stopping everyone just means you are violating everyone’s Constitutional right.”

If Law Enforcement does not have probable cause, meaning strong suspicion or evidence you have hurt someone, are a thief, have destroyed property etc… they can’t, Constitutionally, stop you!

Our founders put in writing the Fourth Amendment to prevent these type of “fishing expeditions”, meaning looking for a reason to arrest you, from happening. You have the freedom to drive down the road without government agents stopping you simply because they want to. They don’t Constitutionally have that power. They act like they do, but they don’t!

If you don’t use your right to free speech and come out hard and strong against this unConstitutional act by our government, then a few years from now Law Enforcement will be coming to your front door, unannounced, to do a safety check. And because it is 2am and you are standing there in your underwear, you ask if this violates your Constitutional right to privacy; they will tell you “we are not violating your Constitutional right because we did not single you out. We are checking everyone’s home on this block”!

We need some men who are not afraid to stand up for what is right. We have an over abundance of males, but way too few men!

I am not afraid to stand up and be counted! But it is kind of hard to win at anything when you are a lone ranger without any wing men at your side!

EDITOR’S NOTE: Eddie McCain was a friend, occasional writer for The Standard and Congressional candidate. Eddie knew the Constitution and urged his fellow Americans to study the document that undergirds our country. The above is an article he wrote from an incident in his life. He was one of five friends of mine all of whom passed away in the hospital in 2021 while suffering the ill effects of Covid, and doctors—following “protocol”.
