Are S.C. State Legislators playing with fire when considering a Constitutional Convention? They just may be.

Would an Article 5 Constitutional Convention (COS) create a Constitutional Crisis? That is a very likely scenario based on the lack of knowledge of contemporary Americans and the wide ranging thoughts and ideas of those dwelling in this country. America and Americans are more divided today than at any time since the War Between the States. And we know what happened then.

Concurrent Resolution S1006 was offered in the SC Senate on January 25th, and then quickly referred to the Committee on Judiciary same date. The Resolution seeks “TO DEMAND, AMONG OTHER THINGS…” that an “Article V” convention of States be called in accordance with a 1979 Nevada call to Convention.

The Resolution further ‘resolves’ that “legal action be undertaken in the name of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina to compel Congress to call an Article V Convention if Congress fails to do so within sixty calendar days after receiving this resolution.”

It appears that the Convention of States crowd has become so desperate now as to reach back to 1979 when they claim 34 states had already called for a COS, and that somehow—42 years later—we must demand the U.S. Congress call a COS. Much of South Carolina Resolution S1006 is based on a current Resolution before the Utah State Legislature. This is both ludicrous and dangerous. Hello? Anybody home?

To my knowledge of legislative matters, it doesn’t work that way. To assert that it does would open up the Congress and State legislatures to a whole host of bills that die each and every year, only to be resurrected—42 years later! Or perhaps 102 years later! Hey, with this logic the Congress or State Legislatures could recall proposed legislation that goes back to the original Congress! How absurd!

Isn’t that like sending out wedding announcements 42 years after the fact? By the way, in that period of time 8 states have already rescinded their applications for an Article 5 Convention of States because they found major flaws in the COS reasoning and rejected it.

Senator Rex Rice, R-District 2, Pickens County

And just think, someone in the State legislature actually put their name to this resolution! That someone was Senator Rex Rice, Republican-District 2, Pickens County. Yikes!

This is a shell game being played with your liberties and freedoms, in the name of getting control of ‘out of control spending’, and is completely outlandish. This kind of Tom-foolery is typical of leftist Democrats, not the GOP, and certainly not conservatives in the GOP.

The voting citizen currently has the power to control the spending habits of Congress by “voting the bastards out!” Benjamin Franklin said succinctly that we have been given a Republic—if we can keep it! The only way a Republican form of government works is if the people exercise their duty to communicate with their legislative representatives—your representatives—and then vote them into or out of office according to how they respond to your voice!

One sentence in the Resolution says:

“Be it further resolved that legal action be undertaken in the name of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina to compel Congress to call an Article V Convention, if Congress fails to do so within sixty calendar days after receiving this resolution.”

For South Carolina conservatives, and all America, the COS is the worst possible idea and at the worst possible time. Why? Who controls Congress (honestly, it doesn’t matter which party controls Congress, COS is a bad idea)? Currently, self avowed Communists, Democrats and RINOs control Congress, and they make the rules.

If the COS were to pass, who would appoint the chair of the Convention of States? Who is in charge of the House? Nancy Pelosi, of course! Does this not spell trouble for conservatives from the gitgo?

A COS would put in charge of the Convention the very ones who have created the problems South Carolinians and Americans have faced the past 30-40 years! They are the ones who would be put in charge of fixing the problems they created! They haven’t done a very good job thus far! So why should we allow them to oversee a Constitutional Convention? Do not deceive yourself! If you think that your favorite conservative activist or Constitutional minded elected representative would have the dominion over a COS you’re only kidding yourself.

This is the old ‘look over there’ trick! There is a hidden agenda in this legislative Resolution. The hidden “man behind the curtain” of the Convention of States and globalism is the Koch Brothers and their desire to replace our Federal Constitution.

Conservapedia says “The Koch brothers have been pro-choice globalists who tend to undermine efforts to strengthen American sovereignty and border security.” The publication also says that “The Koch brothers have worked with George Soros to promote internet censorship.” This as well as supporting open borders and amnesty for illegal aliens.

The Koch’s are known to push for an Article V Constitutional Convention (“Con Con”), including the Convention of States (COS); “dark money” (secret financing, without limits, of organizations to influence policy and elections); they oppose federal “War on Drugs”, oppose pro-life policies, support globalism along with more immigration of low-wage workers, support globalist trade policies, including so-called “free trade,” and oppose any trade measures to protect American jobs, industry, sovereignty, and wages.

The powerful Communist Party USA has their new Constitution ready for the COS.

Wanting their own Constitution is not something that only Republicans or Democrats want. The COS has drawn a strange bipartisan coalition of Article V supporters. Most don’t know it, but the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA has drawn up a “Constitution for The New Socialist Republic in North America” as soon as an Article 5 Constitutional Convention is acted upon. The Council on Foreign Relations has their own ideas in book form for a North American Union Constitution. Even the Koch Brothers have their own vision for a new Constitution. And billionaire Socialist George Soros wants a new Constitution. So, who gets to choose? How many will cooperate or hold to honest American principles ? And which principles? You see, this is not so cut and dried as many would have you think. We are reminded in the Bible to ‘choose wisely’.

“Take you wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you.” — Deuteronomy 1:13

Right thinking people in the S.C. State legislature must fight to oppose this lunacy. It is time all good men come to the aid of their country! S.C. could be the 34th state to approve this insanity if the citizens don’t let them know to vote against it!

The only way to solve the uncontrolled spending habit of Congress or the unconstitutional ‘laws’ they pass is for the people to contact their Congressman, Senators and State legislators often enough so they do what you say or vote them out. The answer to that is remind them that they took an oath to obey the written Constitution in Article VI:

This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution

Your S.C. State legislature works for You the people! Not special interest groups and big money lobbyists. If you have questions or legislation you want your state legislators to pay attention to, contact your S.C. State Legislators at:

S.C. House of Representatives:

S.C. Senate

It is time that the S.C. State legislature looked out for the people of S.C. and not special interest.
