“Never did I think I would ever be in a pageant,” commented Lexington native Sarah Grace Allen. Now she’s one of 46 contenders from across the country for the title of Miss for America beauty pageant in Las Vegas at the end of August 2023. And her objective is “Bringing back the crown!”

The local beauty queen will appear in Las Vegas, August 17th to participate in 10-days worth of pageant activities and events leading up to the big day for the pageant. In preparation for the pageant The Standard publisher sat down to interview Sarah. The newspaper is available throughout Lexington County.

Local Lexington beauty Sarah Grace Allen will compete for the title of Miss for America August 24th against 45 young women from around the US. She was featured on the front page of the print edition of The Standard newspaper August 1, 2023.

Sarah Grace and I had opportunity to sit down and converse last week. The current Miss SC for America is very personable, co-owner of Momma Rabbit’s Nibbles & Sips in Lexington, level headed, and so much more. We had a great conversation on a range of topics and how her background has prepared her for competition, and what she expects from it.

“There’s a lot more that goes into it than meets the eye.” She recounted that there is everything from “scheduled social media posts, to meetings with sponsors, to appearances, preparing for Nationals, etc.” She says it can be “sometimes overwhelming.”

So, what prepared her for the pageant? Sarah was quick to answer that question with “Great coaches, pageants, and my family reminding me why I’m doing this.”

She said these voices “instilled confidence” in her. She added that Romans 8:28 leads her to “be a voice of encouragement in our nation at a critical time,” and that we must “use our voice while we still have it.”

She reflects that who would believe we “live in a world where Americans were afraid to be Americans—-afraid to voice their beliefs, living in a culture where debate and opposing ideals would be silenced, where our freedom of religion, expression, and congregation would be threatened, and where the very word “patriot” would be taboo”?

This answer reveals her platform, which is First Amendment Primacy—-our right to Free Speech—-a topic she is passionate about. We’ll talk more about that in another article.

This Miss is involved in her community as a business woman, in civic concerns, staying abreast of growing government expansion and doing her part to keep it in check. She says that “creating and encouraging community has always been important,” with the last few years having “unnecessary division”.

Talent? She’s got it! She is a competitive ballroom dancer having competed in and won national and international ballroom championships in Washington, DC, and Italy.

Through all the glitz and glamour she maintains that she is a simple country girl. She admits she has to practice for interviews and on stage questions. She says “that’s a lot for a farm girl.” A farm girl who raises chickens and a llama. She even has a Goat named liberty.

Her expectations for the pageant in Las Vegas? She says she just wants to “live in the moment and enjoy it.” Sarah confesses she is “not a Career pageant girl.” But, she says preparation for the pageant has “taught me a lot about myself.” That includes “learning about style, how to present myself to the public, why I’m here and the mark I want to make in the world with my values.” She continued that the pageant is an “excellent opportunity to express what I believe in.” She said “At end of day it is shaping you and never know where it will lead.”

Throughout the whole pageant experience she says she has “met a lot of wonderful women [and made] lifelong friendships.” It’s easy to see why making friendships is easy for her, she’s personable, expressive and easy to talk with.

Sarah admits she is a patriot who is proud to be an American, and she’s not afraid to say so. She comments of the pageant that “No matter the outcome, this is a stepping stone in the purpose God has for me.”
