SC Senators Sandy Senn, District 41, Charleston County, Penry Gustafson, District 27, Kershaw County and Katrina Shealy, District 23, Lexington County (pictured above), misled conservatives and violated the vote entrusted to them when they willfully voted against the Biblical principle and the Republican Party platform of protecting life in the recent House Bill H3774, the “Human Life Protection Act”. The SC Republican Party has a platform that those of the Party take an oath to follow. One of the tenets of that pledge is one that protects life of the unborn. This is one of the contentions within the Party between “establishment/uni-party” party members known as RINOs and the America First members, that being one of following the party platform.

As I have mentioned in other articles the Republican Party has many members who are really Democrats who cannot win in their district as a Democrat, so they wear an “R” behind their name and are typically called RINOs, “establishment” or members of the “uniparty”. That is the case with Lexington Senators Katrina Shealy, R-District 23, Penry Gustafson, R-District 27, and Sandy Senn, R-District 41. Three Republican women in name only (RINOs) who not only ignored the Party platform they pledged to follow but who flaunted their ignoring of it on the floor of the SC Senate when debating H3774.

The Republican Party platform states as follows:

“The Constitution’s guarantee that no one can “be deprived of life, liberty or property” deliberately echoes the Declaration of Independence’s proclamation that “all” are “endowed by their Creator” with the inalienable right to life. Accordingly, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to children before birth.”

“We oppose the use of public funds to perform or promote abortion or to fund organizations, like Planned Parenthood…”

House bill H3774 was designed to prohibit the State and taxpayers from paying for abortions, prohibit state funds from purchasing fetal tissue or remains from an abortion and to defund Planned Parenthood. It also had other stipulations as follows:

H. 3774 a bill to amend the South Carolina code of laws by enacting the “human life protection act”; by adding article 7 to chapter 41, title 44 so as to ban abortions in this state, to provide for exceptions to the ban on abortions, to protect the use of contraceptives and alternative reproductive technologies, to provide penalties, to provide a civil cause of action for failure to comply with the requirements of this article, to provide that a woman cannot be prosecuted for having an abortion, to provide that physicians or other licensed professionals shall lose their license for violations of this article, and to provide that a woman’s name may remain anonymous in proceedings initiated pursuant to this article; by adding section 44-41-90 so as to provide that the state health insurance program may not pay for abortions, to prohibit state funds from being used for the purchase of fetal tissue or fetal remains obtained from an abortion, and to defund Planned Parenthood; by adding section 63-17-325 so as to require a biological father to pay child support beginning at conception; by adding section 38-71-146 so as to require all individual and group health insurance and HMO policies to cover contraceptives; by requiring the South Carolina public employee benefit authority to cover prescribed contraceptives for dependents; by amending section 44-41-710, relating to construction and application of this article, so as to remove language related to implicit repeal; by amending section 44-41-480, relating to construction against implicit repeal of existing law, so as to remove language related to implicit repeal; by repealing section 44-41-20 relating to legal abortions; by amending section 44-41-70, relating to promulgation of rules and regulations for certification of hospitals and other facilities, so as to delete a reference to section 44-41-20; and by providing an unconditional right to intervene in challenges to this act by the president of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives.

Tom Davis, R-District 46, Beaufort; Penry Gustafson, R-District 27, Kershaw; Greg Hembree, R-District 28, Horry; Luke Rankin, R-District 33, Horry; Sandy Senn, R-District 41, Charleston; and Katrina Shealy, R-District 23, Lexington all worked against H3774 and against the Republican State Party Platform. These “Republicans”, plus 15 Democrats defeated a pro-life bill.

The question is raised that since Republicans have a majority, exactly where are the Republicans with upholding their platform? Some have asked “which team are these Republicans on?” Where is Drew McKissick, chairman of the SC State GOP and other SC Republican Party leaders defending the official SC State GOP Party Platform, which is a pro-life, Personhood platform?

These are questions Republicans and others want answered.
