For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. — 2 Timothy 1:7

Take note and reread this verse and what it is telling us and then ask yourself, ‘where is the church’? Where is the dominion? Where is the Power of God in our society? Have we  somehow forgotten this verse?

Our God has NOT given us a “spirit of fear”, that is, timidity or cowardliness so as to be afraid of evil and wicked men, the “devil” or of whatever they may say or do! Fear is the result of “the spirit of bondage” (Romans 8:15). We have NOT received orders from on high to shrink down and cower or even be discouraged before any man whatever his rank, office or position.

We have NOT been given a weak, fearful, milquetoast, bootlicking spirit so as to be discouraged or deterred from the work of the Lord, the preaching of the Gospel, opposing the errors of false teachers, reproving men for their sins, standing against evil and evil men, principalities, powers, dictators and tyrannies! That is NOT the spirit from the God of the Bible! That weak spirit is not from Yahweh and it brings fear and a snare to everyone who engages it.

In fact, for the true Christian we’ve been granted the exact opposite spirit by the Almighty: he has imbued us with the Spirit of his Power! This is a gift from on high in the form of his Holy Ghost dwelling in us! (Acts 1:8) This power “casteth out fear” and torment from within us and stimulates us to greater works outside ourselves (1 John 4). This is not just any power, but incredible life changing, healing and miracle working power (1 Corinthians 12:10), history changing, raising from the dead POWER!

This is the Power to be fearless, to overcome any fear, to work miracles, to confound enemies, defeat armies, to encounter foes and dangers; power to endure under trials; power to triumph in persecutions, power to stand against enemies, face dangers triumphantly and enable us to do that which is lawful and right in his sight. This is the Power that inspires the mind with holy courage for victory. Think of Daniel (Daniel 6), Shadrach, Mesach and Abednego (Daniel 3), David against Goliath, Peter and John (Acts 3), and others.

The Holy Ghost–the Spirit of God who is called the “power from on high”–at Luke 24:49, fortifies Christ’s servants against reproaches and persecutions for his sake, strengthens Christians to resist Satan’s temptations, to endure hardness as good soldiers of Christ, to quit themselves like men, in opposition to false teachers, and to do the will and work of God.

This word ‘power’ is the Greek word, Dunamis, where our word ‘dynamite’ comes from–that’s incredible dynamic explosive power! This is the power to move mountains and more my friends! But, just like the lamp on the table we must plug the cord into the source of power and turn it on to use it! In other words we must access the power to make use of it, which power comes only from the LORD himself.

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” John 14:12

These “greater works” than Jesus, can only come because we are empowered from on high! That means we must be repentant, pure in heart and seek the LORD with all our heart, soul and might while he may be found.

The third verse of the hymn “Come, Thou Almighty King” prays this Power rules us and never departs us that our LORD Jesus Christ empowers us with. Empowers us to overcome all enemies and situations.

Come, Holy Comforter,
Thy sacred witness bear
In this glad hour:
Thou who Almighty art,
Now rule in every heart,
And ne’er from us depart,
Spirit of power.

According to the Bible, Christians have the Power of the Holy Ghost, all we have to do is exercise the faith to use that Power. Therein lies our victory! The Bible says that ‘faith is the victory’. What are we waiting for?
