The Baseball Writers Association announced the Most Valuable Players of the 2019 season tonight as Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels and Cody Bellinger of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Bellinger’s performance this year garnered him 47 home runs and led the league with 351 total bases. The 24 year old Bellinger gets the MVP after being named as Rookie of the Year in 2017.

 

This was Trout’s third time in the MVP circle and included a career best of 45 home runs in a single season. He ties teammate Albert Pujols with the three MVP awards.

 

The voting was close as Trout received 17 of 30 first place votes and 13 second place votes with 355 points total. He came in over Alex Bregman with 13 first place votes.

Dodger center fielder Bellinger received 19 out of 30 first place votes for the MVP prize. He bested Christian Yelich of the Brewer who received 10 first place votes.

The award was questionable for Trout when he went on the disabled list for foot surgery which kept him out of 19 games near the end of the season.
